A magical and nostalgic place

It all began with this place, where my mother was born. Where I spent many winters and summers playing outdoors amongst the trees. Norway is, I believe, where I formed my strong connections to Mother Nature. Naturally when I started painting landscapes, motifs started to appear in the form of trees and mountains. What I paint comes from within- memories and experiences I’ve had in nature.

It had been a while since I’ve visited Norway and I was excited to see the familiar landscape. I’d decided to dedicate my next collection to my time here. There is something about the trees here that have imprinted onto my memory.

One of my most vivid recollections of experiencing ‘awe’ is one winter when we visited the mountains. It was snowy and there was a small stream which had made a pathway through the woodland. Complete silence apart from the sound of fresh water trickling underfoot. I look up at the trees above me and there’s a deafening silence as the sound of the water is drowned out by this intense feeling. There are so many emotions bundled into one it feels like I want to laugh and cry at the same time. I feel insignificant, yet completely safe and connected to the life around me.
