When did we lose our connection to nature?

Sublime Encounters is a body of work that explores the majesty of the natural world and the uncertainty of its future.

“The inspiring energy of nature propels me to create the dream-like wonder I’ve experienced among natural landscapes. Nature can be a place of joy, solace and contemplation, but it is in danger, particularly as we’ve lost our connection and oneness with the broader universe. The sublime is often described as the strongest feeling the mind is capable of feeling; something that is experienced outside of our conscious mind and is rooted in our relationship to the world. The sublime encourages us to feel ourselves in relation to something larger than us.”

By tapping into memories and emotions associated with particular places, Sara aims to renew our bond with nature in an effort to protect it.

Hoque uses acrylic and spray paint with collaged images to create compositions using loose, abstract narratives. Incorporating imagery from memories and dreams using vivid brushstrokes with saturated hues; she mimics transcendental moments experienced in nature.
